Frequently Asked Question

Is there any entry fee for visiting Gupt Godavari?

Gupt Godavari does not charge an entry fee. The cave complex and the temple inside are open to all visitors at no cost, which makes it one of the more accessible pilgrimage-cum-natural attractions in Chitrakoot.

What you might spend money on:

  • Parking: If you drive or hire a vehicle, there is usually an informal parking area near the entrance where you pay around ₹20–40 depending on the vehicle type.
  • Local guides: Guides congregate near the entrance and offer to walk you through the caves. They typically charge ₹100–200 and can be useful — the inner cave can be dark in sections and the route is not always obvious. If you have children with you or are visiting for the first time, a guide is worth it.
  • Torch rental: Some guides or small stalls near the entrance rent out torches or flashlights for ₹30–50, which can be helpful for the darker sections inside.
  • Puja materials: Small shops near the entrance sell flower offerings, diyas, and incense for the shrine inside the cave. Budget ₹30–50 if you wish to offer prayers.

The visit to Gupt Godavari itself takes about 1.5 to 2 hours if you walk through both caves and spend a few minutes at the inner shrine. The caves open at 7:00 AM and close around 6:00 PM. Arrive on a weekday if possible — weekends and festival days see heavy footfall and the narrow cave passages can get congested.
