Haridwar

Haridwar is a city located in the state of Uttarakhand, India, situated at the foothills of the Himalayas. It is a renowned spiritual destination and is considered one of the seven holiest places in Hinduism.

Haridwar is a city that has been mentioned in ancient Hindu scriptures and is believed to have been blessed by Lord Vishnu. It is also known as “Gateway to God” because it is the starting point for the Char Dham Yatra, which includes four of the holiest pilgrimage sites in India – Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri. The city is situated on the banks of the River Ganges and is considered one of the most sacred places for Hindus.

The history of Haridwar dates back to ancient times. The city has been mentioned in various Hindu scriptures, including the Mahabharata and the Skanda Purana. According to legend, Haridwar was the place where Lord Vishnu left his footprint on a stone, and hence the city is considered holy.

During the medieval period, Haridwar came under the rule of the Mughals, and later the British. In the 19th century, it became an important center of learning and religious studies.
