Narayan Bali Pooja is a Hindu ritual designed to alleviate the souls of ancestors who have suffered untimely or unnatural deaths. It is believed to relieve family obstacles and curses attributed to these restless spirits. The two-day ceremony, conducted by skilled priests, includes rituals similar to a funeral, with offerings made to Lord Narayan (Vishnu) for the salvation of the souls. Performed at sacred sites, this pooja symbolizes respect and duty towards ancestors, aiming to bring peace to the living family and the departed souls. It profoundly expresses Hindu beliefs about life, death, and spiritual liberation.
It is also performed for the dead persons who were great sinners. The families performing these rituals usually do so in the hope of getting rid of family misfortune, infertility or the desire to have a male child.
