Mangalnath Mandir is believed to have been built during the Gupta Dynasty (4th to 6th century CE). However, it is also mentioned in the Hindu epic Ramayana, which is believed to have been written around the 5th century BCE. The temple is considered one of the Navagraha (nine planetary) temples, and it is believed to be the birthplace of Mars.
