Frequently Asked Question

Are there any festivals celebrated at the Sati Anusuya temple?

The Sati Anusuya Temple celebrates several Hindu festivals through the year, with the ashram’s surrounding forest adding a distinctive contemplative character to each occasion.

Navaratri (Chaitra, March–April; and Sharadiya, September–October): Both Navaratri periods are important here, with special Devi puja performed daily. The temple draws devotees who see Sati Anusuya as an embodiment of feminine devotion and virtue — the ideal of pativratha (a devoted wife). The Chaitra Navaratri, which coincides with the peak of the spring pilgrimage season in Chitrakoot, sees the largest crowds at the temple.

Annual Temple Fair (Chaitra month, March–April): A large fair is organized at Sati Anusuya Ashram during the Chaitra month. Local traders set up stalls, and pilgrims arrive from surrounding districts of Satna, Chitrakoot (both MP and UP sides), and beyond. The fair has a distinctly rural-pilgrimage character — less commercialized than city festivals, more rooted in local tradition.

Shivaratri (February–March): The Shiva temple within the ashram complex holds special significance on this day. Abhishekam is performed through the night, and devotees fast and keep vigil. Shivaratri at the ashram, set in the quiet forest, has a very different atmosphere from the crowded city Shivratri celebrations — many devotees prefer it precisely for this reason.

Kartik Purnima (October–November): A significant pilgrimage day throughout Chitrakoot. Devotees take a dip in the Mandakini and visit multiple ashrams and temples on this day, including Sati Anusuya.

The ashram generally sees higher footfall from October through March, coinciding with the pleasant weather and the concentration of major Hindu festivals in this period.
